Route Options Overview

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the New Wilmington Tour De Donut. Each year has been marked with lots of fun including memorable times with family and friends, incredible scenic routes and, of course, all of the donuts you can eat. In 2026 we are offering several riding options designed for serious, semi-serious and casual cyclists. All routes will begin and end at the Westminster College Fieldhouse. The rides open at 8:00 am and sag support will last until 2:00 pm.

Tour De Donut Signature Ride (10 miles)

Each year the largest group of riders take this approximately 10 mile trek from the Westminster College Fieldhouse, past multiple Amish barns, cows, sheep, chickens, horses, homes, cornfields, kids, orchards and greenhouses.  It’s all Amish, except for the rest stop at the Apple Castle. There are a few hills, both up and down, but nothing that kids or grandparents can’t handle.

Amish suburbs (20 miles)

This circular route will take you by a variety of rural homes and farms (both Amish and English).  The roads are lightly traveled, and the area is very scenic with a few slopes both up and down. There will be a rest and refreshment area at Ferris Farm Produce.  This is a great ride for those looking for something a little more, but it’s not too challenging, really.

Plain but not Plane (30 miles)

This route takes you from the Westminster Fieldhouse to the eastern side of the county, past Amish and English farms, over a 19th-century covered bridge to Plain Grove, where the rest/refreshment stop at the halfway mark will be at Maria’s Country Store, a true country store that has been in that spot for over 100 years.  The ride back will take you on some new roads as well as some familiar ones.  This route has been a favorite for many veteran Tour De Donut riders, and it never gets old.   It is not exactly on a plane, but the hills are gentle and gradual.  The good news is that the longest hill going out is a lot of fun to go down on the way back.

Hill Challenge (40+)

As the name implies, the Hill Challenge is for the serious cyclist who is up for a challenge.  There are plenty of hills in Western Pennsylvania, and we have found some good ones (if you’re into hills, that is).  You will also pass through Volant, a popular local shopping area with historic sites such as the Volant Mill.  Riders will need to download this route on a device or follow the provided map as there will be no arrows to guide you, unlike the other routes.  There will be a rest area at the Volant Fire Department.
